Ouma se Opstal, also known as Granny’s Homestead, is a beautiful preserved historic residence, constructed in 1902.
This 115 year old homestead is situated at the foothills of the majestic Drakensberg Mountains in a World Heritage site, in Kwa-Zulu Natal. It is part of a working farm.
The ‘ Kopje’ at the back of the house, known as ‘Impimbo’ in Zulu, or ‘ Arthur Seat ‘ was an observation point for Dingaan’s Impis. Ouma se Opstal/Granny’s Homestead is surrounded by a breathtaking, lush garden and creates a perfect atmosphere of peace and tranquillity. The garden has ample place for children to run around and play, while the rest of the family can relax and unwind. Visitors can enjoy the fresh mountain air and peace in the beautiful garden with its big trees. The interior decor speaks of an old world charm and uplifts the spirit of appreciation. . .4 Spacious bedrooms, 2 en-suite and 2 sharing a bathroom. The house can sleep comfortably 8 adults.

Spacious accommodation in a large farm house, comfortable, clean, with everything in a working condition. Four sleeping rooms, two en-suite with showers, baths and toilets. One bedroom has a double bed and the others have 2 single beds each. Third bathroom with bath and toilet. A large sitting room with DSTV and a separate dining room. Well equipped kitchen with a breakfast nook. Outside braai area facing the swimming pool in the garden. Received ‘Superior’ endorsement from AA for Farm Accommodation.
All windows and outside doors equipped with burglar bars. Some of the locking mechanisms on the doors could be improved.
House and garden surrounded with electric fence and sliding gate. Security guard on duty 24 hours per day.
Only 9km from the Central Drakensberg information centre with its wealth of leisure attractions. Huge and well manicured garden with big trees, beautiful flowers, and many bird species.
Swimming pool, outdoor braai area, and play area for children.
Hiking to a small hill offering nice views of area.
The seasonal activities of the arable crops can be viewed by guests, but access to the piggery is restricted.
Value for money
Good accommodation in a beautiful area, at a price that will benefit families or bigger groups.
