Northern Cape

agritourism along the garden route

This sparsely populated area is South Africa’s largest province. Visitors flock to the region in spring, to view the spectacular spring flowers. This province has a wealth of national parks and conservation areas, amongst them, the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. The Augrabies Falls provide spectacular viewing and especially when in full flood.

The Northern Cape is home to the world’s largest telescope, the Square Kilometer Array (SKA), located 75 kms north of Carnarvon. Sutherland is the site of the Southern Hemisphere’s largest Astronomical Observatory, Included there is the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT), the largest single optical telescope in the Southern Hemisphere.
